More windows, more views

We realized that before taking any more trips, more windows would be necessary for anyone riding in the back. We're also looking for a removable passenger chair because forward facing riding makes for less nausea (see next post).

Adding the side and rear windows wasn't as daunting as adding our first tiny window because by now we've cut lots of holes in the van. One thing we didn't think about was temperature and the effect it has on the window glue. But we were lucky that there were 2 warm weekends in October and now we are done with our windows!

Holes drilled along the perimeter make the cutting process easier. Hole was cut with jigsaw and tape kept the metal from jumping.

The grey stuff is primer to cover scratches and protect the van from rust.

The black primer is for the window glue. This helps the glue adhere to the metal. Also, the window is trimmed for good looks and safety.

We cleaned the window thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and after putting on a tootsie roll amount of glue around the whole window (glue pictured below), we used suction cups to lift and place window, pushing it into place.

This is a one of the rear windows. The reason the window only needs glue (this was shocking news to me. These windows are pretty heavy!) is because the porous areas around the transparent glass part of the window allow the glue to adhere the the glue which works with the primer. Chemistry!

Holes are smaller than windows- cut to size of the transparent part of the glass.

Tootsie roll glue (urethane- do not eat- haha).

We added tape to hold them in place while the glue dried because we still thought the glue could use a little help holding all that weight.

Curtains and curtain rods too! (Van Gogh print)
